Free skills that make AI work like your finance controller

33 free skills for Indian finance teams, for Claude and any agent that reads skills. Each one is a playbook the agent follows, from coding invoices to checking GST credit, with a verdict first and every claim labelled.

npx skills add bankopen/finance-skills

Draft v0.4. The GST, TDS, MSME and statutory-date references have not yet been verified by a chartered accountant, and each skill has been dry-run only once on made-up data. Where a rate or rule is not confirmed, the skill says Open instead of quoting it. Nothing here is tax, accounting or legal advice.

Every skill links to its full instructions on GitHub, and new skills are added as they are built and tested.

Foundation

Run this first. Every other skill reads what it writes.

Accounts payable

From invoice intake to a safe payment run.

Tax and compliance

GST, TDS and MSME rules, with the reference behind every rate.

Continuous close

Close the books as you go, not in a month-end scramble.

Expense management

Keep spend inside policy without chasing receipts.

Cash and treasury

Know where the money is and where it will be, and how well your controls hold.

Run them on live bank data

The skills work on exports from any bank or accounting software. Connect your accounts and ERP to Open and your AI assistant can run the same skills on balances, statements and payments as they happen, with no exports.

FAQ

Questions about the skills

How is this different from just asking an AI?

Each skill gives your AI agent the steps, the checks and the exact output format a careful finance controller would use. You get the same structure every run: a one-line verdict first, then the evidence, with every claim marked Supported, Hypothesis or Open.

Where should I start?

Run Finance Context first. It asks once about your entities, banks, ERP and approval limits, then writes one file that every other skill reads before it asks you anything.

Which AI agents do the skills work with?

Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and any agent that reads the Agent Skills format (a folder with a SKILL.md file). In Claude you can also upload a skill under Settings, Capabilities, Skills.

Does Open see my data?

No. The skills run in your own AI session. The library is a set of instructions; it has no code that uploads or stores what you give it. Do not paste bank credentials, passwords or tokens, and remove account numbers and tax IDs from exports where you can.

Do I need Open to use them?

No. The skills work on exports from any accounting software or bank. If you connect your accounts and ERP to Open, your AI assistant can run the same skills on live data instead of exports.

Is this tax or financial advice?

No. Every flag is a question for your accountant or approver. The GST, TDS, MSME and statutory-date references are still draft and not yet verified by a chartered accountant, and each skill has been dry-run only once on made-up data; where a rate is not confirmed, the skill says Open instead of quoting one.

Can I change or contribute to the skills?

Yes. The library is open source under the MIT licence. Fork it, change anything, and open a pull request, especially to correct a rule with its section and date.
