Questions about this tool

How is DSO calculated?

Simple DSO is receivables ÷ credit sales × the days in the period. For a quarter with Rs 4,00,000 receivables and Rs 12,00,000 credit sales, that is 4,00,000 ÷ 12,00,000 × 90 = 30 days.

What is the countback method?

Countback starts with your latest month of credit sales and subtracts it from your receivables, then moves to the month before, until the receivables are used up. It follows your real sales pattern, so it is more accurate when sales are uneven or growing.

Which sales should I use?

Credit sales only. Cash sales never sit in receivables, so including them makes DSO look better than it is.

What do I do with the result?

Compare it with your payment terms and your own past periods. The days beyond terms and the cash tied up show how much is at stake in collecting faster.
