Questions about this tool
How is net revenue retention calculated?
NRR = (starting recurring revenue + expansion − contraction − churn) ÷ starting recurring revenue. Over 100% means existing customers pay you more than they did, even after losses.
What is gross revenue retention?
It leaves out expansion: (starting revenue − contraction − churn) ÷ starting revenue. It shows how much you keep without upsells, and it cannot go above 100%.
Which customers count?
Only customers who were already paying at the start of the period. New customers won in the period are not part of NRR.
Which period should I use?
Use the same period each time, usually a year for NRR. If you measure monthly, compare like with like.
